Isn't It Romantic The play deals with the post-college
careers (and dilemmas) of two former classmates, a short, slightly plump
would-be writer named Janie Blumberg, and her tall, thin gorgeous WASP
friend, Harriet Cornwall. Both are struggling to escape from lingering
parental domination and to establish their own lives and identities. In
Janie's case this leads to an inconclusive involvement with a young
Jewish doctor who calls her "Monkey"; while Harriet assails the world of
big business and has an affair with her hard-driving (and married) boss.
Told in a fast-moving series of inventive, alternately hilarious and
touchingly revealing scenes, the play explores their parallel stories
with uncommon wit and wisdom—resulting, ultimately, in a heightened
awareness which, while not providing all the answers, goes a long way
toward achieving the maturity and self-assuredness that both
protagonists so desperately desire. The Diary Of Anne Frank In this transcendently powerful new
adaptation by Wendy Kesselman, Anne Frank emerges from history a living,
lyrical, intensely gifted young girl, who confronts her rapidly changing
life and the increasing horror of her time with astonishing honesty,
wit, and determination. An impassioned drama about the lives of eight
people hiding from the Nazis in a concealed storage attic, THE DIARY OF
ANNE FRANK captures the claustrophobic realities of their daily
existence—their fear, their hope, their laughter, their grief. Each day
of these two dark years, Anne's voice shines through: "When I write I
shake off all my cares. But I want to achieve more than that. I want to
be useful and bring enjoyment to all people, even those I've never met.
I want to go on living even after my death." This is a new adaptation
for a new generation. The classic story of Cinderella staged
in a manner sure to entertain children of all ages! "Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans." Jane Austen never wrote those words, but she proves them conclusively in Emma, her comic masterpiece. In this lively and faithful adaptation she steps on stage herself to shepherd her delightful characters through the pitfalls and surprises that await them. Emma Woodhouse who is "handsome, clever, and rich" attempts to marry off her trusting young friend Harriet to all the wrong people, and she nearly misses out on true love herself. Set in remote Surrey, an English county "full of beauties," and peopled with unforgettable comic characters, Emma stands out as one of the great beauties of the English language. Show Dates: September 5 - 21, 2008 Arsenic And Old Lace The play, a clever combination of the
farcical and the macabre, centers on two elderly sisters who are famous
in their Brooklyn neighborhood for their numerous acts of charity.
Unfortunately, however, their charity includes poisoning lonely old men
who come to their home looking for lodging. The two women are assisted
in their crimes by their mentally challenged nephew who believes he is
Teddy Roosevelt and who frequently blasts a bugle and yells ‘‘charge’’
as he bounds up the stairs. Matters get complicated when a second
nephew, a theater critic, discovers the murders and a third nephew
appears after having just escaped from a mental institution. Holiday Show (TBD) Show dates:
